How can I get child support?

I have a 6month old son and his father does not pay child support. When my son was born his father was there and then just stopped coming around. The only time he has ever asked for my son was on fathers day. I have been so broke lately that I have to call and pretty much beg for him to take my son just so he can buy some Diapers and food for my son while he is at his house. Finally I decided to try to get child support form him but here is the problem. He doesn’t have a job, He lives with his mom but he goes to college. My sons father said the state will not make him get a job but I don’t know Michigan laws when it comes to child support. Does anyone have any ideas?

Go to family court first. you don’t need a lawyer, the prosecutors will handle it for you. They’ll require a DNA test first, and if it comes back positive, will begin the case against him. He’s bullshitting you about them not pursuing support from him because he isn’t employed…do NOT believe him. Unemployed or not, they will make him send you a minimum amount of money every month. It might be low, but it will be something.
Go to Family Court right now, don’t wait anymore, and begin the process. It isn’t going to cost you a dime.

Another question about cloth Diapers?

I am planning on useing cloth diapers for my baby. I would like to start buying them now, while I’m still pregnant. My two other children weighed almost 9 pounds each whn they were born. I am leaning towards Fuzzi Bunz, but have bought a sample pack of others. How many smalls should I buy? I was going to get a starter set with 18, but it is quite expensive and I’m worried my child will grow out of them before I get my money’s worth. Any Recommendations. I also bought some diapers off craigslist from a lady that decided not to cloth diaper after her daycare said she had to bring in disposables. Here’s the diapers I have so far.
1 Small Fuzzi Bunz, 1 Bum Genius 2.0, 1 Small Knickernappie, 1small Happy Heinies, 1 Small drybees (these were all from the sampler. I also have 1med fuzzi bunz, 1med little lambs, 1 med bumkins, 5 med kushies, 2 large babykins, 4 large cottontails, 6 xl bumkins, 2 wahms (not sure what size yet) and 1 kushies diaper cover.

BumGenius diapers are one size- they will fit from 8 to 35lbs, your child will probably not grow out of them. Small Fuzzi Bunz fit from 7 to 18 lbs. That should at least get you a few months worth of use. Fuzzi Bunz have good resale value too. I just bought a used small for $12.00 and a used medium for $15.00. So I wouldn’t worry about not getting your money’s worth.

For a newborn baby you will need 2 dozen diapers to go two days between washings. If you bought 2 dozen new BumGenius or Fuzzi Bunz it would cost you over $400.00. Considering you’d spend about $3000.00 on disposable diapers from birth to potty training (and that’s just for one child, cloth diapers can be resued for subsequent children), $400.00 doesn’t seem so bad.

But if you are unable to come up with $400.00 all at once, try a combination of prefolds and pockets. One dozen each of perfolds and pockets, and four covers (for the prefolds) will run you about $250. Don’t worry about prefolds being hard to use- they’re not. You can just fold it into a rectangle and place it into a velcro closing cover. No pins needed.

Kushies are the cheapest AIOs you’ll find. They’re not bad, but they’re not great either. You can get 25 of them for about $200.00. Some Wal-Marts and BabiesRUs carry Kushies.

If you went with strictly prefolds, you could buy a package that included 3 dozen infant size, 2 dozen premium size, 6 small, and 6 medium covers, and a snappi for $175.00. That would take you from birth to 25lbs. Once your baby grows out of them, then you could invest in a dozen large AIOs or pockets. 12 will be all you need by that time to get you through a day and a half to two days between washing.

My son is 9 1/2 months old and wears stage 3 diapers. Normally he wears Huggies because they’re cheap and yet still good quality. I’ve tried all the off brand diapers and their absorbancy isn’t what we need, but their velcro straps are always stronger. Quite frankly, Huggies has horrible straps, especially for a baby on the move ALL THE TIME. He wiggles out of his diapers all the time now, and it’s starting to cause a problem because he’ll pee everywhere before I realize what’s happened. We’ve tried the Pampers brand, and they’re the perfect diaper except for the cost,… Then I had an idea. Do you think a baby safety pin used to hold the straps of the Huggies diapers onto the diaper would be a good idea? Or do you think it would rip off? Would the little bit of metal on his skin rub him raw? What do you think I should do?
