Make Your Own First Aid Kit That is Great For the Family

You can help prepare yourself for the unexpected by creating your own personal first aid kit.

Chances are you will have an emergency within a 1/2 mile radius of where your car is parked so it’s a good idea to create a first aid kit that stays in the car. So you will first start by creating a first aid kit for the car and then one for the diaper bag or for your purse.

Supplies needed for the first aid kit for the car:

- An insulated adult size lunch bag
- A pair of small scissors
- An assortment of bandages from small circle shapes to large square ones
- A few sport bandages
- 1-2 rolls of bandage wrap (rubber elastic wrap is great for kids)
- A few pairs of vinyl gloves stored in a plastic zipped sandwich bag
- A 4oz. bottle of sterile eye wash
- An emergency blanket (reflective)
- Sting wipes such as Nox-A sting wipes which help neutralizes stings and relieves itching
- Instant cold pack
- Antiseptic towelettes
- Alcohol prep pad
- Non-aspirin pain reliever packets
- A pair of tweezers
- 4×4 Gauze pads
- Surgical/Medical Tape
- Antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin
- A bottle of instant hand antiseptic
- A small flashlight with batteries which should be replaced every few months
- Small candles with a book of matches
- A first-aid booklet

To create a mini first aid kit for the diaper bag, a backpack for hiking or your purse you can store all items in a makeup bag. Purchase a canvas makeup bag it possible and include the following:

- An assortment of bandages from small circle shapes to large square ones
- A few sport bandages
- Sting wipes such as Nox-A sting wipes
- Antiseptic towelettes
- Alcohol prep pad
- Non-aspirin pain reliever packets
- A pair of tweezers
- Antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin
- A bottle of instant hand antiseptic

These kits will come in handy but just be sure to remove the kit from your purse or diaper bag when entering any facility that would deem scissors as a weapon such as the airport or county building.

Help me figure out how to get 3-yr old potty-trained!?

My three year old daughter has been peeing in the potty since right before she turned two. The thing is that she usually will only go when I remind her to. Once in awhile she will take the initiative and do it without me asking, but this is rare. Also, she has pooped in the potty only once during this entire time. Every time I change a poopy diaper I ask her where her “poopy” is supposed to go and she says “in the toilet”–but none-the-less she flat out refuses to do it.

Your best bet is to be consistent. My son starting using the potty, but would only use it sometimes, usually if I reminded him. The trouble was I kept him in pull up Diapers and I think he thought that if he was wearing a diaper that he had the choice whether or not to use the potty, and sometimes out of laziness or just not wanting to leave his toys he peed in his diaper. I started putting him in underwear, but he peed in those. I put him naked and he went pee in the potty everytime. I left him naked for about a week and the habit formed. I also praised him alot and gave him a small treat when he did. Then I could put him in underwear and he was fine. I also confused him by putting him in a diaper whenever we left the house, I decided to keep him in underwear all the time regardless and he really surprised me how good he was out in public. Pooping took longer but with much encouragement and promise of a surprise for his first time, he eventually did. Now he is fully trained with no problems
