Cloth Diapers – pros and cons?
I am looking at ways to be more environmentally friendly with my baby that is on the way. One of the ways I have thought to do this is by using cloth diapers versus the disposable. Has anyone used cloth diapers? Would you recommend it? What are the pros and cons?
I can definitely answer this one.
Pros:
• Better for the environment
• Almost no diaper rash
• Very convenient if you get a cloth diaper service
• Cute diaper covers to choose from.
Cons:
• You end up using some disposables–at night and when you travel. Ultimately the price ends up being more than if you had only used disposables.
That said, if you are willing to wash them yourself, the savings will be big. But, you have to have time to wash them almost everyday. Not so great if your a working mom.
If you have the money to get a service, I would HIGHLY recommend it. They just pick up the poopy diapers and drop a fresh bag off every week. It is extremely sanitary.
We did it for the first year of my daughter’s life (the diaper service) but are now switching to only disposable (Seventh Generation Diapers) as we need to save a bit of money and I am going back to work.
